Microdot is one of the trading brand names of Cambridge Sensors Ltd. a UK incorporated company (“CSL”). CSL was originally founded in December 1991 as spin off from the Cambridge University department of Biotechnology. The founders were Professor C R Lowe, who enjoys an international reputation in the field of sensors and affinity chromatography, and Mr J McCann, a Cambridge trained engineer who had previously co-founded the first company to develop electrochemical glucose biosensors for treatment of diabetes. CSL now operates manufacturing and development facilities in Cambridgeshire UK and Chicago, USA and sells directly in both countries via it is own sales forces. Outside of these countries sales are carried out through distribution relationships. Particular areas of focus include diabetes equipment, safety sharps and specialised medical devices for use in the emergency room setting.

Facilities and Operations

CSL operates from a 15,000 sq. foot facility in Cambridgeshire, UK and a further 16,000 sq. foot production facility in Chicago, USA. Both facilities are FDA registered. The Cambridge UK manufacturing facility is certified to the ISO 13485:2016 medical device standard. All devices marketed by CSL are CE marked and registered by the UK MHRA and the US FDA.

The company operates a fully compliant Quality Assurance and Management system certified by the UK Notified Body: The British Standards Institution (BSI).
